Shed some books off of your shelves and mugs from your cupboard at Nox Market! Take a book, leave a book.
How does it work?
Bring a few gently loved books and clean mugs to Borough Coffee @ Double Oaks
Sort your books by by genre to make it easy for your new friends to find their next read and place your mugs in the designated spot
Browse around, ask folks what they’ve found, and find something of your own
Scan a QR code or two and learn about some bookworm friendly activities in GSO
Order a drink, tip your baristas, and start reading your new find!
Stay a little late and help us clean up by taking some of the leftover books to your local Little Free Library. Find the one’s in your neighborhood beforehand!
Why are we excited about this
In such a short time, we’ve seen books get banned in droves, funding get cut from libraries, AI attempt to replace living, breathing poets, independent bookstores close their doors, the adult literacy rate fall drastically with the upcoming generations, and not to mention, the slow decay in interest for physical media. We want to encourage our community to engage with literature before we lose it.
How it started
Nox Market was originally conceptualized in 2024 as an autumnal celebration by Yvonna D Johnson and Mariah M. It was originally a sponsored by NC BLOC through the Black Freedoms Fellowship. Through urging from their community, Yvonna and M decided to run it back as spring is knock, knock, knocking on our doors.
What is the Equinox
The Spring Equinox is the astrological event where the sun crosses the celestial equator headed north. It is one of only two times in the year when the Earth is not tilted on its axis. This results in equal hours of day and night. We recognize it as a return to a balanced state that delivers us gently into the warmer months. To support this new equilibrium, Nox Market invites you to center yourself with literature, and a little magic. We are so grateful that you have chosen to celebrate the equinox with the Nox Market!
